Speaker: Norris Yang (‘ 68) was the President of our DSOBA from 1992-1995, Chairman of the Hong Kong Mediation Council (2003-2006) and the leading Chinese speaking Mediator in Hong Kong and internationally for commercial disputes. He is the first Asian panel member of the International Mediation Institute (the Hague, www.imimediation.org) and the first Hong Kong lawyer on the Panel of International Distinguished Neutrals of the Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (New York, www.cpradr.org).

Topic: Mediation- an effective process to settle litigation in Hong Kong

The recent Civil Justice Reform (“CJR” – effective 2nd April 2009) has changed the landscape for conducting litigation in Hong Kong. The new Practice Direction (“PD”) of the Chief Justice on mediation (effective 2nd January 2010) will encourage plaintiffs and defendants (and their solicitors) to consider mediation. Norris will share his insight on how mediation can be used to save time, money, headaches, emotions and relationships in a litigation, when disputes occur and prevent them from escalating to your case in the courts.
